Rights of use

All photographs and audiovisual media (hereinafter "Works") displayed and made available for download by Novartis on its online services are the property of Novartis. This includes all protected rights of Novartis and its predecessor companies to the Works, in particular personal rights and copyrights.

Any use of the Works is only permitted with the express permission of Novartis.

By using the Works, the user agrees that he/she does not acquire any rights of ownership.


Purpose of use

Novartis grants permission to use the selected Works. Novartis associates and registered users can use the selected Works in accordance with the following contractual provisions:

The users solely receive rights of use to the Works selected by them.

The Works may only be used for scientific research, for educational and teaching purposes, for presentation in exhibitions and for reproductions in publications.


Request for permission to use

Novartis associates may use the images accessible to them on the media database within the scope of their business activities for Novartis without having to submit any application. In these cases, permission for use is limited to the duration of the employment relationship with Novartis.

Use of the Works by other registered users is subject to approval and requires a corresponding request in electronic form.

There is no entitlement to a permission to use.


Authorization for use

The management of the Novartis Company Archives, or, if applicable, the Corporate Secretary of Novartis, will decide on the application for use.

Permission for use may be granted subject to conditions and requirements.

Authorization for use will only be granted to the applicant and for the purpose stated in the request.

Permission to use may be revoked by Novartis at any time.


Use of the Works

All Works may only be used for the agreed purposes.

Under no circumstances is it permitted to use Works made available by Novartis for purposes that distort their meaning, are taken out of context, or are illegal. The use for political and commercial purposes is not permitted.

All Works used must be accompanied by a copyright notice and the respective signature. The citation must be structured as follows:

"Novartis Company Archives / name of photographer, signature" (corresponding to the file name)

External users and Novartis associates undertake to respect the copyrights and personal rights as well as the legitimate interests of third parties, including internal and external associates of Novartis and its predecessor companies, and to comply with the Data Protection Act.

The disclosure of the Works to third parties and to other Novartis associates as well as storage beyond the agreed purpose is not permitted without the express written consent of the Novartis Company Archives.

External users and Novartis associates undertake to provide the Novartis Company Archives with at least one complete specimen copy free of charge and without being requested to do so. In the case of use on the Internet or other digital channels, a link or a PDF with a screenshot must be sent to the Novartis Company Archives.
